Facial Implants

Specializing in facial plastic surgery and non-surgical rejuvenation procedures.

Facial implants are a type of cosmetic surgery aimed at improving facial contours and proportions by inserting specially designed implants into key areas of the face. These implants are made from biocompatible materials such as firm silicone and are customized to augment specific facial features, providing a more harmonious and balanced appearance. Facial implants can also be used as long term solutions for facial volume loss if a person does not want to do facial fillers or fat grafting which can be resorbed by the body.

Did you know…

The most common facial implant is a chin implant to create a longer jaw line and more balanced facial profile. Jawline or angle of the mandible implants create a stronger and wider jaw. Other popular facial implants include malar or cheek implants and temple implants when patients have significant volume loss. Facial implants can also be custom made and designed for the patient. Dr. Nagy works with the patient to specially design the implant tailored to their aesthetic goals.

Who is a Candidate?

Candidates for facial implants typically include individuals who are looking to augment or define specific facial features such as the chin, cheeks, or jawline. Implants offer a permanent solution rather than dermal filler or fat grafting. However, implants are removable.

Individuals with congenital facial asymmetry or those who have experienced facial trauma seeking to restore balance may also benefit from a custom-made facial implant. Custom implants can take 4-6 weeks to create, so patient’s should expect that time frame.

Ideal candidates should be in good overall health, have realistic expectations about the outcomes of the surgery, and be willing to follow pre-operative and post-operative instructions.

What to Expect During the Procedure

During a facial implant procedure either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia may be used, depending on the extent of the surgery and the patient’s preference. Incisions are made in inconspicuous locations, such as inside the mouth (for intraoral approach) or along natural facial creases under the chin (for external approach). The surgeon carefully inserts and positions the implants to achieve the desired enhancement and symmetry then fixes it in place with sutures or screws.

The procedure duration varies depending on the number of implants and the complexity of the surgery.

Post-Operative Recovery

You may experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort around the surgical sites. Pain medications and cold compresses can help manage these symptoms. Rest and avoid strenuous activities for the first week. Any external sutures will be removed at your 1 week appointment. Your surgeon will provide specific guidelines on when you can resume normal activities.
